Powered by six engines and assembled from sections built secretly during the German occupation, the giant French flying boat Latecoere 631 has been officially tested by the French Air Force. Of high wing monoplane type, with large dihedral tail plane, the new aircraft has a wing span of 190ft 6in, can carry 50 passengers and 132,000lb of freight. It has been planned to operate from Paris to New York and to make the flight in 23 hours, carrying 40 passengers.
